A Study of Bank Strategies in Taiwan:Applying Two-stage Process DEA

| Popis: | 103 The financial liberalization on bank system has resulted in more and more financial products and services through service innovation. However, whether a bank can operate effectively needs to be explored further. This study aims to give suggestions to stakeholders in order to develop effective business strategy. This study selects 30 banking field of finance industries from the Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database, data of domestic banks from 2010 to 2013. Through the data envelopment analysis (DEA) to evaluate the performance of domestic banks and discuss further about the business-related operations of domestic banks. In order to understand decision making unit efficiency of inner working, this study adopts two-stage DEA to divide into cost-input stage and profit-output stage, and network-based method for ranking of efficient units to analyze the bank efficiency. By network-based method, we rank the DMUs and compare the business strategies of these different banks which help to bring implications for making business decisions. The study shows that the cost-input efficiency in public banks is higher than private banks. However, the performance of public banks does not generate better revenue even they attempt to change their past business strategy. Although private banks have less natural resource than public banks, they still rely on the effective loan policy and strategic alliance to gain efficiency in profitability. |
