The Impact of Participation in Local Church Activities on Social Skills and Happiness among Fifth and Sixth Grade Students in Taipei and New Taipei Cities

| Popis: | 102 The purpose of this study was to identify the current situation of fifth and sixth grade students in the elementary school from different backgrounds participating in the activities of “the Local Church” as well as discuss the relationship among social skills, happiness, and church activities participation of the fifth and sixth grade students by questionnaires. Research targets were the members in the church of Taipei and New Taipei city. Total of 185 questionnaires were administrated, and 79 of them were valid ones with validation rate of 42.7%. And 128 questionnaires were surveyed personally, and 128 valid ones with validation rate of 100%. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Scheffe’s post hoc, and Pearson's product-moment correlation. The following are the results of the study: 1. The fifth and sixth grade students are generally good at social skills, especially in the aspect of "obedient behavior". 2. The fifth and sixth graders generally feel happy, especially in the "social participation". 3. The girls of fifth and sixth graders have the better social skills than the boys’. 4. There was no significant correlation among the numbers of the siblings and the birth orders in the aspects of the social skills and happiness. 5. The longer for the fifth and sixth graders participating in the church life, the more social skills and happiness they have. 6. The fifth and sixth graders get more social skills from either their parents or one of them is the member of the local church. 7.The factor on the social skills "Communication expression" has the highest correlation of the happiness. 8. The social skills of the fifth and sixth graders who participate in the activities of the local church are highly correlated with the happiness. Finally, through the conclusion of this survey provides some practical suggestions for the parents and the serving ones of the local churches in Taipei and New Taipei city.
