Pilot study of promoting Taiwanese iPlate: Based on two colleges in central Taiwan

Literature indicates that the majority of student in Taiwan are at low awareness about the "Daily Food Guide". Therefore, this study aimed to investigate whether the intervention of the iPlate image affect the nutritional recognition attitudes and behavior among college students and to assess the effect of image for estimating food portion size. There were 86 students in this study, 42 students in the iPlate image group (experimental group) and 44 students in the Daily Food Guide image (control group), all students received 20 meals the dietary intervention and two nutrition education. The results showed that after the intervention, nutrition knowledge increased 2.39 points (p≤0.001); eating attitudes increased 4.52 points (p≤0.001); and eating behavior increased 6.57 points (p≤0.001) in the Daily Food Guide group. After the iPlate image intervention, nutrition knowledge increased 2.76 points (p≤0.001); attitude balanced diet increased 1.43 points (p≤0.001), self-efficacy attitude reduced 1.38 points (p≤0.001); diet behavior increased 8.40 points (p≤0.001).
