This thesis is aimed to study the historical development of Cathedral of Christ the Savior from 1915 to 2014. The earliest missionary work traced back to 1626, when missionaries began to enter northern Taiwan to preach Catholicism. Due to the end of Spanish power over Taiwan, the missionary work came to an end thereafter. It was not until 1859 did Catholicism reenter Taiwan and began its gospel preaching in southern Taiwan. With the expansion of missionary work, the missionaries started to preach in Changhua Luocuo, the central part of Taiwan. Fr. Miguel Prat followed in the footsteps of missionaries and built churches in 1915. Among all the churches in Catholic Taichung Diocese, Cathedral of Christ the Savior was first established and located at the core of urban Taichung. Chosen as Cathedral in Taichung Diocese by the first bishop William Francis Kupfer, it plays an important role in gospel pilgrimage. This thesis centers on missionaries of Cathedral of Christ the Savior during different stages in history. Passing down from the early stage of frontier missionary work, the political transition stage to the modern stage of future prospect, the gospel pilgrimage of Cathedral of Christ the Savior is thus constructed.
