Popis: | 101 Chung Wenyin has her own unique perspective on the creation of travel essays; for example, in travel, she often pays close attention to female issues, observation of local societies, differences between cultures, and the discrepancy between creation and real-life. These characteristics are the motives for the researcher to probe into Chung’s writing process in the creation of her travel essays. This paper reviews writings by Chung from Diary for You in 1999 to Great Writer and Ice Cream in 2008. First, this paper introduces Chung’s life and literary experience. Having undergone the literary experience, Chung accomplished her achievement of writing great literature. For any experience, she has a no-repetition attitude and keen observation skills, which are very important to writers. Moreover, this paper discusses Chung’s motives for travel. Her motivation of travel was to seek classic characters, since these people and places have connection to her life journey and may develop her knowledge. These are the greatest motivations that push her to continue to travel. Furthermore, this paper analyzes Chung’s special experience in her travel literary works. This special experience is indeed a self-dialectical process, which helps her to find herself. In other words, travel, wandering, desolation, loneliness, love, sex, female bodies, and memory, are the objects she observes in travel. Chung chose to write about them since, through reflection, she could find answers to her life problems. In the research, this paper discusses how the places of travel in Chung’s travel literary works connect to her life journey about influence, learning, perception, mood changes, life, and more. In Chun’s travel literary writings, the roles of characters have very deep meanings. To her, some characters give her strength, some prompt her to think about love, and some encourage her to insist on creative ideas, causing the turning point in her life. In summary, all of these characters affected her life. Finally, this paper probes into Chung’s journey of the heart shown in her travel essays. During the years of 1995 to 2008, the places she had visited and the scenes she had seen brought her differences, growth, and changes in literary creation were as follows: the expansion of vision, profound understanding, and settling of the soul. After travelling, the most important thing for her was to settle her mind in the island of Taiwan. |
