This study investigate the feeding habits of the Lizard fishe (Saurida tumbil) by analyzing the stomach contents of 1639 specimens. All samples were caught from southwestern Taiwan waters by trawlers from December, 2008 to December, 2009. The diet weight percentage composition indicated that the S. tumbil was a piscivorus fish. Teleost was the dominant preys of S. tumbil, which occupied 85.4% (including 21 families and 35 species). Crustaceans and Cephalopod were the secondery and the third preys of S. tumbil, which occupied 8.7% (including 5 families and 9 species) and 5.5% (including 2 families and 2 species) of the total food items, respectively. The top 4 food items were Leiognathus sp (8.2%), Loligo sp (5.1%), Stolephorus sp (4.4%) and L. lineolatus (2.8%). The weight of Crustaceans was significant difference between seasons. But the occurrence frequency composition was no significant between seasons. All the year around the highest occurrence frequency was fish with 85.4%, and the secondary was crustacean with 17.1%. In spring and winter seasons, the highest of occurrence frequency was fish with 75.9% and 86.1% respectavely ; and the secondary was Crustaceans with 26.4% and 19.1% respectavely. However, the highest frequency in summer and autumn was fish with 90.9% and 90.6%, then crustacean with 11.4% and 9.4%. However, there was no significant different in feeding habits between female and male’s.
