The effect of Triathletes' Goal Orientation and Sport Passion on Mental Toughness

Triathlon was is one of the most a popular multisport in Taiwan in recent years. The purposes of this study were to develop inventory of mental toughness, and explore the influence of triathletes’ achievement goals and passion on mental toughness. This study was Two hundred and sixty nine triathletes was involve targeted in the present study triathletes (N=269) and all of the acquired data was further analyzed by exploratory factor analysis, canonical correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Findings of the study were list below: There were 5 factors of mental toughness were evidenced, including positive thinking, perform under anti-pressure, focus, ambition, and motivation. There was a positive correlation between triathletes’ achevement goals and passion, based on the canonical correlation findings. Person correlation revealed that mastery approach and performance approach goals were positively correlated to mental toughness. Mastery approach also predicted all factors of mental toughness, along with Harmonious passion. On the contract, mastery avoidance can only positive predicted positive thinking and ambition. In addition, obsessive passion can only predicted anti-pressure and ambition, however, the explained variance was less than 2 %.
