The Occupational Categories of the Visually Impaired Librarian in Public Library: Case Study of Taipei Public Library

Through national and international case studies of visually impaired librarians, our study has taken a deeper investigation about the possibility of recent library occupations for the visually impaired and of serving as other library occupations. To begin with our thesis about the possibility for visually impaired librarian and other categories of occupation to serve in Taipei Public Library, we start by interviewing with the visually disabled staffs, deans of other branches of Taipei PublicWith the result from the interviews, we advise to provide consultation about the possibility in hiring visually impaired as librarian or other occupations.This investigation provide several advices and a conclusion according to the interview results as follow: 一、 Advice to the government''s work unit 1. Provide more college and universities for visually impaired potentials to study. 2. Work units for the government and visually impaired associations should establish information flow. 3. Fix the laws and standards with such correlation for the visually impaired libraries with and budget. 二、 Advice to the visually impaired service units 1. Establish contract for working opportunities with libraries that has visually impaired service center. 2. Promote not just massaging but variety of occupations for the visually impaired. 3. Integrate the experiences of all units to assist the career training for the visually impaired and libraries. 三、 Advice to libraries 1. Conform social resources and search for cooperations with other libraries. 2. Establish experience flow with other visually impaired library units. 3. Develop new occupation in libraries. 四、 Advice to visually impaired librarians:Visually impaired librarians should have self recognition in order to let the family of visually impaired and the society to have positive recognition.
