Digital videos have been a popular learning media for learners, which could provide a ubiquitous learning environment to preview and review the course content without instructors’ teaching. Several studies indicated digital video could promote learners’ motivation, interests, concentration, and comprehension effectively. Although digital video can attract the attention of learners, it still causes some negative effectiveness for learning. Therefore, several studies proposed video with annotation and cueing to promote students’ learning effect. However, the content of video with annotation in personal learning may lack for the effective construction of knowledge. To solve this problem, this study proposes a web-based collaborative video annotation system was called CVAS, supporting collaborative annotating functions which include textual and graphic annotations to enhance the effect of video learning. An experiment has been conducted on the college students to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed system. This comparative study included collaborative learning group and personal learning group. After this learning activity, learners were asked to conduct the comprehension test. The results show that the proposed CVAS not only promotes learning interest, but also enhances the organization of knowledge effectively.
