The Learning Attitudes and Difficulties Expressed by Selected Applied Foreign Language Colleges' Seniors Enrolled via Diverse Measures

Popis: | 99 This study aimed to explore the learning attitudes and difficulties expressed by selected Applied Foreign Language colleges' senior students enrolled via diverse measures. An in-depth literature review and a pre-test were conducted to develop a survey questionnaire with sufficient reliability and validity. A total of 389 questionnaires from 52 technical and vocational colleges were returned valid. The data analyses used were descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé's post hoc test, and Pearson product-moment correlation. The results of this study were as follows: 1.The overall learning attitude is above average, with attitude towards teachers the highest; while the attitude of self-learning the lowest. The overall intensity of learning difficulty is low. However, difficulties derived from social factors are ranked the highest; and whereas family factors the lowest. 2.Attitudes toward learning as expressed by students from various backgrounds are significantly different. 3.Difficulties of learning as perceived by students from various backgrounds are significantly different. 4.The attitudes of self-learning and the difficulties derived from personal factors are negatively correlated. 5.In this study, the top five difficulties of learning are revealed as follows: (1)Concerns about possible future unemployment in view of today’s society, (2)Anxiety about further education opportunities, (3)Interactions in the classroom, (4)Indolence in learning, and (5)Vague profile of personal interests, aptitudes, abilities, and values. |
