A STUDY ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HOMEROOM TEACHERS' SERVANT-LEADERSHIP AND EFFECTIVENESS OF CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT IN JUNIOR SHCOOLS IN NEW TAIPEI CITY

Popis: | 99 The main purpose of the study is to investigate the status quo and the relationship between homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership and effectiveness of classroom management in junior high schools in New Taipei City. It also investigaes the difference in students’ perception of homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership and effectiveness of classroom management. A self-designed questionnaire was distributed to the eighth-grade students in junior high schools in New Taipei City. To carry out sampling and testing the questionnaire, there were 816 copies of questionnaire sent out and with 795 valid returns at response rate of 97.42 %. The following statistical methods were adopted to analyze the data collected by the questionnaire survey, such as number distribution, percentage, average, standard deviation, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, and the multiple stepwise regression analysis, etc. The findings of the research are as follows: 1. The status quo of homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership in junior high schools in New Taipei City is at medium-high level, and the highest of the four compositions is stewardship. 2. The status quo of effectiveness of classroom management in junior high schools in New Taipei City is at medium-high level, and the highest of the four compositions is interpersonal relationship management. 3. Among background variables, teachers’ gender showed significant differences in students’ perception of homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership. However, students’gender, class size and school size showed no difference in students’ perception of homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership. 4. Among background variables, teachers’ gender showed significant differences in students’ perception of effectiveness of classroom management. However, students’ gender, class size and school size showed no difference in students’ perception of effectiveness of classroom management. 5. The results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership and effectiveness of classroom management. That is, the higher homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership is, the better their effectiveness of classroom management will be. 6.All of the compositions in homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership has significantly positive prediction to effectiveness of classroom management.On the whole, “building community” is the strongest predictor of homeroom teachers’ servant-leadership in junior high schools. Based on the findings, suggestions were provided for homeroom teachers and administrators of junior high schools, educational administration institutions and researchers studying related topics.
