Bank Scour Protection in a Curve Channel by Double rows of 'Cheng-Kung Porous Basket'

This paper is about protecting the concave bank by Double rows of Cheng-Kung Porous Basket (CKPB) in a curved channel. In this channel, no sediments were added during the experiments. The setting parameters are: setting angles θ of 30, 60 and 90; and the ratio of the distance between the double rows to the projected length of the CKPB equal to 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. From the experiments, we found that the best set of double rows of CKPB (in terms of angle and ratio of distance between rows), can make a slow flow velocity area behind it, and also guide the main stream away from the concave bank. In the conditions of a relative curvature of 4.17 and Froude number equal to 0.45, the results show that for the best set of Double rows of CKPB (located on 25 and 31 bending angles of the channel and the setting angle of 30), the scour reduction comes up to 104% to the original deepest point in the concave(located on 49 bending angle of the channel), and an area scour reduction of up to 57%, also a scour reduction of 93% to the original deepest point in the concave, and a scour reduction of the area in the concave to up to 51% in the best set of single row of CKPB. These results show that the Double rows of CKPB provide excellent protection against girdle scouring, and in the best set, the Double rows of CKPB are better than single ones. Besides, the effect of changing the setting angle of the second row CKPB is not better than having both the same.
