This thesis is to analyze the mathematics teaching of the fourth grade teachers in Taipei through systematic recording of classroom instruction. This study is based on TIMSS 1999 video study, carrying two-stage stratified cluster sampling, shooting video, and filming for digital video, coding and analysis on the fourth grade teachers in Taipei. In addition, with the evaluation structure of NAEP, the research made use of the Coding Video Data II: Specialists to design a coding structure suitable for observing and evaluating mathematics teachers in their teaching practices. The results are as follow: (1) Teachers focused on "numeric" and "quantity" while teaching mathematics and they put more emphasis on teaching low complexity and repetitive questions. (2) Teachers explained conceptual knowledge to enable students to understand the concept of mathematics; when teaching problem solving, Teachers favor procedural questions and solving. (3) Teachers the most frequently used representations are Spoken Symbols and Written Symbols; they liked to link the real-world situations to make a connection. (4) Teachers spent more time introducing, practicing and applying new content, but only twenty percent of the teachers would summary newly learned materials. (5) Teachers interacting with students spend the most classroom time; and monitoring student activity next.
