A Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness on Critical Thinking Teaching

This research integrates the researches of critical thinking teaching in Taiwan through “meta-analysis.” The researcher surfs on Electronic Theses and Dissertations System, National Central Library and after sifting out 22 empirical survey theses which fit for the demand. The research makes use of comprehensive meta-analysis software to conduct every kind of test and the conclusions of the research are as follows: 1.The critical thinking teaching in Taiwan is significantly higher than those practical integral effects of general teaching. 2.The critical thinking teaching in promoting the students’ critical thinking ability is more remarkably higher than the practical sub-item effectiveness of general teaching. 3.The critical thinking teaching in the sub-item effectiveness of cultivating the students’ critical thinking tendency has significant difference with the general teaching effectiveness except no significant difference in “systematicity and analyticity” and there shows negative effectiveness only in “holistic and reflective thinking ”. 4.The publication year is the moderator variable to influence critical thinking teaching effectiveness. 5.The teachers’ gender, learning stages and the experimental weeks are the moderator variables to influence critical thinking teaching effectiveness, but there still exist other moderator variables to influence the effectiveness. 6.The teaching area is not the moderator variable to influence the critical thinking teaching effectiveness.
