However, the issues of e-learning research are getting diverse and it is ergent for practioners, officials, and researchers to analyse the staus quo and future trend. Most theses and dissertations are deeply affected by the advisors and they could represent the research orientations of the scholars in our country. Therefore, This study used ”e-learning” as the keyword to search studies from 1989 to 2007 in the theses and dissertations system of National Library. A total of 1587 theses or dissertations were obtained and the developing trends in e-learning research were analyzed from the aspects of temporal distribution, studied industries, e-learning topic domains, publishing universities, and research methods. Results showed that, since 90 academic year, the number of e-learning studies began exceeding 100 studies per year and the organizations in educational industry were studied most frequently. Regarding the e-learning topic domains, the topics about the individual psychological and social effects took the largest share of the studies. Most of the studies belonged to National Taiwan Normal University and were empirical studies in terms of their research method. The cross analysis of research methods and e-learning topics were also conducted. These results helped the understanding of the development of and changes in e-learning and served as the basis for more in-depth and comprehensive inter-disciplinary e-learning research in the future.
