A Study of Correlation between Professional Competence and Self-Efficacy of P.E. Teachers from Elementary Schools in Yunlin County

Popis: | 96 The purpose of this study is to discuss the correlation between professional competence and self-efficacy of P.E. (Physical Education) teachers from Elementary Schools in Yunlin County, and to compare the difference of variables such as different backgrounds on professional competence and self-efficacy of teachers, then to analyze the anticipation for factors such as teacher professional competence on self-efficacy. This study adopts the method of survey and conducts sampling with stratified cluster sampling of 323 teachers from 66 public elementary schools in Yunlin County. The survey response rate is 97.2% with an effective response rate of 95.3%. Using the “Table of professional competence and self-efficacy of P.E. teachers from Elementary Schools in Yunlin County” as an analyzing means and taking the data collected to carry out statistic methods such as descriptive statistic, t-test, One-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis…etc. with statistics package of SPSS For Windows V.12.0. The study concludes the following: 1. The overall professional competence of P.E. teachers from Elementary Schools in Yunlin County is rated medium level, with the aspect “teaching abilities” receiving the highest score. 2. The overall self-efficacy of P.E. teachers from Elementary Schools in Yunlin County is rated medium level, with the aspect “general teaching efficacy” receiving the highest score. 3. Among different background variables, gender, years of service, educational background, positions, participation in further education, and highest degree present the most significant difference in teacher professional competence. 4. Among different background variables, gender, years of service, educational background, positions and participation in further education present the most significant difference in teacher self-efficacy. 5. The anticipation of teacher professional competence factors on the overall teacher self-efficacy is as high as 71.4%, with the aspect “athletics skills” receiving the highest anticipation of 58.9%. Finally according to the results and conclusion of the study, a specific proposal is put forward and used as a reference for Education Administrative Organizations, elementary schools, P.E. Teachers of elementary schools and future researchers. |
