Popis: | 96 The Hakka community in Quan-si region of the Hsing-chu County ever made immense contribution to Taiwan tea industry, which created a glory in the history of Taiwanese tea exportation since second half of the 19th century. However tea plantation in the region has gone into decline. Why it happened and how to revive tea industry in the Quan-si region is rather an urgent need for proper study. This research aims to clarify the historical development of tea industry in the Quan-si region to show its important factor in the economic development of Hakka community as well as its significance to the ethnic identity of Hakkaness. It also tries to find out the reasons of the decline, the dilemma which the community is facing, and solutions for the future long term development. This research is a case study by conducting in-depth interview with tea famers, traders as well as local historians, and field work of investigation on tea production. It will fist discuss the history of tea plantation of the region by tracing its root back to the period of Ch’ing dynasty, through Japanese colony up to the KMT government take-over. Then it will examine the government policies, environmental, economic and social transformation and the problems accompanied that in the course of tea industry development. And finally this research shall bring out suggestions for the relevant government institutes, and for further studies. |
