Along with expanding of economy, demand for energy from all walks of life is increasing year by year. Countries in the world therefore have been exploiting every possible energy resource. Coal mine, abundant and accessible, becomes one of the important sources of energy resources in many countries. However, the process of mining is treacherous since coal mine is mostly underground. Because of lack of control over workers, difficulty of communication, insufficiency of security facilities and negligence of management, the accident rate is relatively high in the mining fields. As a result, how to secure the safety of the miners is an important task in the coal-mining industry. Therefore, the study focuses on incorporating the techno logy of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) into mining process and building up a monitoring system. Through the operation of the computerised system, information of miners working in pits can be obtained and also, rescue operations can therefore be carried out in the shortest time possible via the better control of exact positions of miners when accidents take place. Compared with the conventional management by men, time and human resources are efficiently used and safety of miners is further secured.
