An Action Research on Gender Equity Education for Young Children-Use Picture Books as Instructional Methods

Popis: | 95 This study used action research method and focused on the growth and changes of gender concept of young children after implementing gender equity education course based on picture books. The compiling of young children gender equity course scheme was drafted according to the published papers, from which five main schemes were developed. Then this gender equity educational course was used in the class for six weeks, thirty young children of the kindergarten in Kaohsiung Municipal Chung-Chung Primary Schoo were involved as the research objects. Data were collected and analyzed through participating, observing and interviewing the research objects. Researcher and the cooperative teachers discussed, reviewed, criticized, observed together time after time during this six weeks course, by do so, cooperative teachers gained more knowledge and their specialty were improved. Research results revealed: 1. Through practicing this course to the kindergarten classes, the goal of using picture books on young children gender equity education course can be achieved. It is feasible and efficient way to make use of picture books to design and implement young children gender equity course. 2. During gender equity course teaching, study objects showed a positive change of gender concept observed among the teaching of the five main themes of the course. 3. Through teaching and introspection, teacher’s specialty and skill can be improved. Finally, according to the research results mentioned above, this study proposes concrete suggestions and guidance to educational administration departments, teachers and future study.
