Popis: | 94 Departing from past practice of evaluating candidates, this paper focuses on the evaluation of the politicians themselves. The emphases are placed on the correlations between the evaluations of the politicians, on the identification of the determining factors as well as on the stability of the evaluation criteria. Using the statistical data collected via interviews conducted in 2000, 2003, and 2004 by Soochow University and the Election Study Center at National Chengchi University, we analyze the evaluations of Taiwan Politicians, explore the major factors, and assess the stability of the evaluation criteria. This research uses the feeling thermometer as the indicator for the evaluations of politicians. The result indicates that Ma Ying-Jiou is ranked the highest in the politician evaluation category. While testing the correlation between evaluations of politicians, we find party identification being the key factor tilting a voter’s evaluation of politicians. Voter with the same party identification contributes positively to the evaluation of politicians, while negative evaluations are reserved for politicians from the opposing camp. Political preferences, such as, issue standings, and subjective image of politicians, also play important roles in affecting the evaluations of politicians. In comparing the analysis results, from the regression model used, we find that party identification and politician image being the two key and stable factors that exert identifiable influence on the evaluations of politicians. The relative effectiveness of the influence, however, is not consistent when a chronicle analysis is performed. Key word: Feeling Thermometer, Politician Evaluation, Politician Images. |
