The wireless local area network (WLAN) become very popular recently. One of the reasons is that it uses orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique to provide high data rate transmission. Basically, an OFDM WLAN baseband receiver contains functional blocks of energy detection, frequency synchronization, symbol timing synchronization,channel estimation, phase tracking, and Viterbi decoding. In this thesis,we investigate the performance enhancement of symbol timing synchronization by using oversampled signals. In addition to the root mean squared error (RMSE) of the timing estimate, we also compare uncoded bit error rate and packet error rate for baseband receivers that use T-spaced and T/2-spaced signals.
