The purpose of this study is to investigate the conditions of the school life adjustment of the elementary school children from single-parent families in Pingtung. By questionnaires and interviews, single-parent children backgrounds, including sex, grade, social and financial status, with whom lives, and locations of schools, are analyzed. The samples of the survey are stratified random sampling from the fifth and sixth grades of 38 elementary schools in Pingtung. The 546 valid simples are statistically analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA and Scheffe’ method. Besides, 6 home-room teachers, 12 single-parent children and their friends are interviewed. The findings are: 1. The conditions of school life adjustment of the elementary school children from single-parent families are satisfactory. 2. Most single-parent children live with their mothers and their social-financial status belong to middle or lower classes. 3. The elements such sex, grade, social and financial status significantly influence school life adjustment of single-parent children. 4. The school life adjustment of single-parent children in who lives with him/her and location of the schools show no differences. 5. Single-parent family doesn’t always cause the child with problems. And the children with problems aren’t always from single-parent families. 6. The conditions of school life adjustment of single-parent children maybe good or bad. The results of this research provide suggestions for schools, elementary school teachers, parents and the one who will do further study in this field.
