Sports and casual wear are increasingly popular given the rise of recreational and healthy life styles. However, thermal comfort of the wearer was ensured by proper moisture transporting properties of textiles. Therefore, this study attempts to identify the technologies of the complex design that achieving thermal comfort as a core aspect of sports and casual wear in line with future developmental trends. A patent analysis method is adopted to establish technological improvements and trends. Moisture management function is then studied along with the textile industry value chain from the perspective of end users’ needs. Next, the feasible applications of the cross field that starts with moisture management fabrics are explored by a patent citation analyzing methodology. Analysis results indicate that, according to global patents, the moisture transferring and quick drying fabrics represent an important technology field. Yarn and spinning technologies were the earliest developed in the field, yet are still important now. Developed later, textiles and forming technologies are moderate in importance. Textile treatments continue to be prevalent technologies. Results of this study can establish a map of field technology. The moisture management fabrics can resolve the problem of moisture release in human skin, thus managing thermal comfort during wear. Potential applications include clothing, home textiles and industrial usage.
