The major aim of the research is to making a good two-tired diagnostic test of the misconceptions in probabilities for middle-school students. Therefore we can understand the situation how students’ thinking about probability and what kind of misconceptions do they own. The other aim is to discuss the correlations of different kind misconceptions of probabilities. This article is expected to offer concrete conclusions and suggestions as important reference for teachers and students. To achieve the goals above, the middle-school students studying in the same school with researcher are selected by means of the stratified random sampling, and the sample size of students tested is 1043 in total. The instrument used in this research is “ Two-tired diagnostic test of the misconceptions in probabilities”. The information is gained through the one way analysis of variance, the Pearson correlation coefficient, and other methods. Results indicate that the difficulty of this instrument is appropriate, the discrimination, reliability and validity are proved to be good. Thus, our test problems include the characteristics of being a good diagnostic testing instrument.
