The major requirements for a machining manufacturer are speed, cost and quality, in which quality is the fundamental dement for machining. Process capability indices is a powerful tool to measure the process ability of a product that meets required specifications. Because machinery can’t measure process capability by itself, in this paper. We respond the quality of machinery by the quality characteristic of its processed products. This paper developed an evaluation model of generalization measurement indices for responding to the process capability of machinery. Because the manufacture products normally belong to asymmetric tolerances and nominal-the-best, we propose a generalization measurement indices suitable for machinery that can both evaluate process yield and quality loss. First, under relationship between process capability and process yield we developed a process capability indices of each manufacture workstation. Second, we integrate process capability indices of all manufacture workstation into for the whole process capability indices of this machinery. Then a multi-process capability analysis chart that can precisely measure product with asymmetric tolerances is developed. Finally, we propose a process for evaluating the process capability of machinery, which hopefully provides a useful method of choice a machinery for the manufacture industry.
