Neil Jih-Cherng Harn Abstracts The purposes of this study are to explore the influence of teachers’ role stress and personality traits on teachers’ job satisfaction; to analyze the influence and interaction of teachers’ role stress and personality traits on teachers’ job satisfaction; to find the correlation among teachers’ role stress, personality traits, and job satisfaction; to explore the influence of teachers’ demographic variables on teachers’ role stress, personality traits, and job satisfaction respectively; to analyze the main predictive factors on teachers’ job satisfaction, and to find what teachers’ personality traits were the moderated factors among teachers’ role stress and job satisfaction. The subjects were 237 teachers drawing from the junior high schools in southern Taiwan. The instruments included personality traits scale, role stress scale and job satisfaction scale. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistic methods, including frequencies, t-test, one way ANOVA, two way ANOVA, pearson correlation, step-wise multiple regression, path analysis, and multivariate analysis through contingency tables and chi-square test. The major findings were as follows: 1. There were significant differences existed among the variables of teachers’ personality traits on teachers’ job satisfaction. 2. There were significant differences existed among the variables of teachers’ role stress on teachers’ job satisfaction. 3. Significant interactions were found among groups variables of teachers’ role stress and personality traits on teachers’ job satisfaction. 4. There were correlations among teachers’ role stress, personality traits and job satisfaction. 5. There were significant differences existed among variables of teachers’ sex, martial status, age, teaching years, administration years and jobs on teachers’ emotional stability, extraversion, openness and conscientiousness personality traits respectively. 6. There were significant differences existed among variables of teachers’ age, administration years, teaching years on teachers’ role stress; there were no significant differences existed among variables of teachers’ sex, marital status, job position, school district, and school size on teachers’ role stress. 7. There were significant differences existed among variables of teachers’ marital status, age, teaching years, administration years, job position on teachers’ job satisfaction; there were no significant differences existed among variables of teachers’ sex, school district, and school size on teachers’ job satisfaction. 8. The variables of extraversion, role ambiguity and role overload could most significantly predict teachers’ job satisfaction. 9. The variable of extraversion personality trait with high score group is the moderated factor among teachers’ role stress and job satisfaction. Based on the results, this study has provided some suggestions for educational administrations, school principals, teachers, and future studiers.
