This thesis investigates the effects of hand-free speech on text-dependent speaker verification under GSM mobile environments. First, we implement a recording platform suitable for recording tasks of mobile speakers. The CTI (computer-telephony integration) interface of the recording platform is constructed by using the Intel Dialogic D/41H voice card and its attached application functions. The operation system and software development environment are the Windows 2000 and the Visual C++ 6.0, respectively. Then, a GSM hand-free speech database consisting of 20 male and 20 female speakers is collected to a laboratory server through the telecommunication network from four in-vehicle call environments: (1) stopped car (0 km/hr) with running engine, (2) low speed (20~40 km/hr), (3) medium speed (50~70 km/hr), and (4) high speed (80~100 km/hr). Finally, a series of experiments are conducted to evaluate the speaker verification performance by applying an HMM-based system. Experimental results provide a new baseline of verification accuracy for GSM hand-free conditions. Keywords: GSM mobile environments, hand-free speech, text-dependent speaker verification, CTI interface, HMM.
