This study used the Reading Classics Class sponsored by Fu Chih Cultural & Educational Foundation in Kaohsiung Learning Center as subject. It explored into the influences of the organization’s operating system on the development of reading classics in childhood through the researcher’s observation, interviews, questionnaire and documentary analysis. Some feasible strategies for implementation of reading classics in childhood are also submitted for the reference of relevant organizations in their activities of reading classics to be held in the future. The results of the study are explained in terms of the purpose, current situation and results of the promotion of the reading classics in childhood by the foundation as the following: I. The foundation tries to combine “classics teaching” and “charity practice” together in order to promote traditional culture and further achieve the goal of saving the world. II. Current situation of program planning for and implementation of reading classics in childhood: 1. This program is aimed to carry out the moral education, and it has received favorable comments from classics teachers, students and parents. 2. The volunteers of the program identify themselves with the purpose of the program and thus form an organization of “respecting and enjoying work”. 3. The teachers of the program are engaged based on their religious recognition. 4. All teachers of the program are trained in a sensitive and non-structural way. The participants of the training will be deeply touched and feel that they reap no little benefit. However, the program lacks of systematic teaching theories and practice. As a result, the teachers still feel insufficient in their professional knowledge and teaching skills.. 5. Most of the classics teachers hold positive attitude toward the teaching of classics. They feel that being volunteers can benefit other people as well as themselves. 6. The trouble that all classics teachers might have is the maintenance of classroom discipline. However, they will regard it as an opportunity to “steel themselves for more challenges”. 7. The evaluation on the classics teachers’ teaching is carried out in the manners of observation, self-examination and thinking. 8. The readability and layout of the teaching materials will influence children’s interest in memorizing classics. 9. Patents’ participation will help children develop a habit of reading classics and raise the effect of reading classics. III. Results of the program of reading classics held by the foundation: 1. Classics teachers, students and parents all believe that children’s language ability, behavior, and habits tend to be better after they receive the education of classics. 2. Whether the children “are pleased to read classics” or not has been the index adopted by the foundation for evaluating the effect of reading classics, but not “how many classics they can memorize”. 3. Most students and parents highly appraise the foundation for their contributions, especially for the volunteers’ spirit and attitude of “sacrifice and dedication”. 4. Parents set a high value on the activity of reading classics in childhood held by the foundation and hope that there will be more complete programs to help their children continue to read classics. The researcher has submitted suggestions on strategies for promotion of reading classics in childhood to the program planners, teachers, patents and people who are interested in the promotion of reading classics in childhood based on the results of this study.
