Most LAN systems are based on IEEE 802 standards. A proposed standard, IEEE 802.11, defined the MAC and physical layer functions for wireless LAN. About the medium access control(MAC) method, a protocol called CSMA/CA (carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance) is chosen. Due to its ransom access nature, this protocol is robust with respect to protocol-level, bandwidth-sharing, and radio channel characteristics. About the physical specifications, two modulation technologies, frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) and direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) are either permitted in the 802.11 draft, In this thesis, a design of the module architecture of the basic 802.11 MAC services based on the FHSS is presented and recognized by the Verilog simulation.
