In modern superheterodyne communication receivers, mixers are used for frequency conversions. A mixer can consist of any device capable of exhibiting nonlinear performance. RF CAD simulation and optimization analysis with device nonlinear models can facilitate the design of mixers. In this thesis, due to the lack of transistor nonlinear models, we have used linear approximate analysis to design the mixers. The design of a 900 MHz dual-gate FET mixer and a 2.4 GHz balanced FET resistive mixer for ISM-band wireless communications are presented. The realized dual-gate FET mixer has 3.2dB conversion gain, 21dB LO-RF isolation, 15.7dB noise figure, and 4.9dBm 3rd-order intercept point (OIP3). The realized balanced FET resistive mixer has -8.5dB conversion gain, 32dB LO-RF isolation, 5.2dB noise figure, and 2.3dBm 3rd-order intercept point (OIP3).
