Although it shares many features with textism –writing through SMS–, ubiquitous digital writing –on instant messaging applications like WhatsApp– is an evolved written communication mode especially determined by the possibility of enriching the speech with audiovisual and iconic content. After defining the essential features of the new register, are addressed in this article the main linguistic risks and benefits of using WhatsApp, and some proposals and successful learning experiences through mobile learning with this app. Some keys are set up in as conclusions not to exclude from the curriculum or teaching practice a tool with such educational potential arise. |
