Popis: Objective: Competitive intelligence systems are a resource for companies to channel external information regarding its own environment. Can we apply this system in the hospital environment? The hospital library can affect organizational innovation through the development of a competitive surveillance system so that the relevant information obtained is used for decision making by those responsible for the functional areas of the organization. Methods: We set out how to develop a competitive surveillance system coupling it to the needs of a hospital. We develop an organized system of observation and analysis of the environment, the treatment and internal flow of the information reported for its later use by the organization. Results: The selected topics will be posed for their monitoring, depending on the functional area of the hospital where the system is expected to be implemented. The steps to follow are the following: 1. Sector analysis of the hospital location. 2. Situation of the institution in the sector taking into account is weaknesses and strengths. 3. The possible critical factors of the monitoring will be analyzed: competitive, technological, commercial and environmental monitoring. 4. Identification, search and collection of information. Management and analysis of the information. Analysis of the possible sources of information. 5. Creation of an e-alerts' system for the stakeholders. Conclusions: The benefits of implementing the system are plentiful. On the one hand, it allows the discovery of the changes occurring at a technological, environmental, or commercial level. Being informed in these areas reduces the risks by detecting potential threats. It allows cooperation with partners and the creation of partnerships in joint projects. In short, by implementing the aforementioned system, the information becomes a resource within the organization, provided that it reaches the appropriate targets, specially those involved in decision making.
