The Main Library of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce and Voivodeship Public Library in Kielce have organized several exhibitions thematically related to the region of the Vistula, Nida and Pilica rivers drainage-basin (widely perceived as Kielecczyzna region). Such initiatives have become permanent elements of the cultural landscape of Kielce and the whole Swietokrzyski area. Various exhibitions have presented its history, e.g. the participation of this region in January Uprising, and the output of outstanding personages related to this region, e.g. Aleksander Patkowski – prominent theorist and socially active advocate of localism both on the scale of Poland and Kielce region or Stefan Żeromski and Adolf Dygasinski – eminent Polish writers closely connected with this region. The article presents the role of thematically oriented exhibitions in spreading knowledge about the region and shaping the regional consciousness of those who visit the exhibitions – mainly inhabitants of Kielce region (2003–2007). |
