This paper proposes a novel parallel consequent pole reluctance machine (CPRM) by introduc- ing dual heteropolar stators and shifted rotors in the axial direction. The proposed machine is geometrically similar to traditional switched reluctance machine (SRM), but with biased permanent magnets (PMs) alternately mounted on stator poles. With this kind of design concept, bipolar sinusoidal coil flux-linkages can be obtained due to the elimination of even harmonics of two axially parallel sub-machines. Consequently, the harmonic distortions of phase flux-linkage and cogging torque of the proposed 6/4-pole parallel CPRM are notably reduced. The topology features, even-order harmonic cancellation theory and analytical modeling, are addressed, respectively. Then, the electromagnetic characteristics of the proposed 6/4-pole parallel CPRM are investigated and compared with those original variable reluctance machines. Comparison results demonstrate that the proposed parallel CPRM can achieve basically bipolar sinusoidal flux linkage and back-electromotive force (EMF), as well as reduced cogging torque than its original counterparts. |
