The efficiency of wind energy conversion systems (WECS) relies mainly on the robustness of the controllers. Thus, the paper presents a comparative study between a new adaptive PI blade angle controller initialized by hybrid harmony search algorithm (HSA) and Equilibrium optimization (EO) and two other optimization-based controllers. The influences of the blade angle variation have been investigated by analytical and experimental work. The validation of the new controller is held through comparison with two optimized controllers: Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and proposed Proportional-Integral-Derivative-Acceleration (PIDA). The gains of these controllers are tuned by different hybrid optimization techniques which are composed of HSA, Teaching learning-based optimization (TLBO), and EO. The controllers are subjected to different robustness tests under normal and faulty conditions to verify the superiority of the proposed adaptive controller. The results showed that the proposed adaptive PI controller with HSA Hybrid EO initialization has better performance and robustness than the other controllers. Moreover, the proposed adaptive PI controller guaranteed the ability to withstand wind speed fluctuations and prospered fault ride-through (FRT) at different fault types. |
