Incorporation of landfill leachate in the treatment of domestic wastewater has been practiced in some countries and may be an interesting technical alternative since the transport of the leachate to the WWTP is feasible and that it has the capacity to absorb the overload. This research aimed to evaluate the impacts of the addition of pretreated landfill leachate by ammonia stripping in the treatment of domestic wastewater in UASB reactors. The experiments were performed in pilot scale reactors with volume of 14.14 L, flow rate of 1.77 L h-1 and HRT of 8 h. The treatment of the leachate-wastewater mixtures was efficient in the removal of COD, with removals between 69.2 and 81.4%, with residual values of 88 to 168 mg L-1. The analysis of COD increases from the leachate suggested that the anaerobic treatment was not able to remove the added COD, most of it recalcitrant, and it was negatively affected in relation to the removal of the biodegradable COD from the sewage. |
