Popis: This article aims to investigate how civility operations printed and imposed in the reading books produced for three Graduated Series, as well as processes of formation of social habitus through reading. For this purpose, the Graduated Series written by prominent professors are used as sources, three Gradueted Series written by Felisberto de Carvalho, one by Romão Puiggari, in co-authorship with Arnaldo de Oliveira Barreto and another written by João Köpke. These three Graduated Series have reached expressive circulation in the schools of São Paulo between the end of 19th century and early 20th century. Procedures, instruments, sources and analysis were defined based on the conceptual corpus constructed by Norbert Elias, since it aims to exam practices and processes of modulation of the subject children who lived in the social time of childhood and through which constitute themselves as mental or psychic configuration in which cognition, feeling, attitude, behavior, value , are not subject to abstraction.
