This article outlines the current state of relations between the social sciences and the neurosciences, from an epistemological, historical and critical perspective. It first discusses the conditions of emergence, the success and the contrasting effects of the cerebralization of the subject in the human and the social sciences, split between neuro-scepticism and neuro-optimism. In a second phase, the authors suggest to shift the point of view from the classical question of biological determinism to the one of social performativity of the brain sciences. In particular, they analyze the experimental and sometimes problematic construction of neuro-social inferences, which lie at the heart of cerebralist explanations of social subjects and their behaviors. The article concludes on a discussion on eventual complementarities between the neurosciences and the social and human sciences. |
