Objective: To identify the development and current status of chordoma research. Methods: We used the bibliometrix tool and VOSviewer to conduct a bibliometrics study involving 2,345 chordoma-related articles and reviews. Results: Publications steadily increased over time. The USA and Massachusetts General Hospital were the country and institution, respectively, making the most contributions. Gokaslan, Z.L. had the greatest number of publications, as well as the most citations and h-index values. “Chordoma: Incidence and survival patterns in the United States, 1973–1995,” published in Cancer Causes and Control (2001), was the most cited study written by McMaster et al. The journals, World Neurosurgery and Journal of Neurosurgery had the most number of publications and the most cited publications. Keyword analysis showed that immune therapy, chemotherapy, and the Brachyury-related study were becoming more popular. Conclusions: The present study provided both a comprehensive insight of chordoma research, as well as a description of future areas of research. |
