Este texto apresenta os resultados da primeira campanha de escavação do Projeto Arqueológico Monjope. Sabe-se que esse engenho, que já foi alvo de pesquisas arqueológicas realizadas pela UFPE em 2004, passou por diversas e intensas transformações desde a sua fundação no século XVII, destacando-se a implantação do Clube de Campo Engenho Monjope. Portanto, essa primeira campanha foi voltada à obtenção de dados arqueológicos na área do atual senzala, principalmente no intuito de avaliar a sua integridade estratigráfica e viabilidade de estudos futuros. ABSTRACT The following report presents the preliminary results from the first excavation campaign of the Projeto Arqueológico Monjope. It is known that this sugar mill, target of archaeological research carried out by UFPE faculty in 2004, passed through diverse and intense transformations since its initial foundation in the 17th century, a rural and camping club ($MVCF EF $BNQP &OHFOIP .POKPQF) figuring among the most obvious. As such, the first field season was directed to obtaining archaeological data around the area of the enslaved workers quarters, with the specific goal of evaluating stratigraphic integrity and viability for continued future study. |
