Popis: The paper presents the history of establishing the problem-oriented vitaminologic laboratory on studying the metabolic changes in vitamin B1 deficiency and excess and its relationships with other vitamins at the Department of Biochemistry of Grodno State Medical Institute (GSMI). On the basis of the laboratory following suggestion of Professor Yu.M. Ostrovsky and the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1970 the Department of Metabolism Regulation of the BSSR Academy of Sciences (Institute of Biochemistry since 1985) was established. The important contribution of the GSMI students’ scientific society in formation of the personnel capacity of the first academic establishment in Grodno as well as the fruitful cooperation of GSMI (University) with the academic establishment in creation of the representative scientific school is emphasized.
