Engineering students must have a good capacity of spatial visualization to face up the tasks of their studies. In this sense, taking into account that it is possible to improve this capacity by means of an adequate training, an innovative methodology is proposed in this paper, which is based on stablishing interdisciplinary links between technical drawing and other more practical issues and, which also helps students to reinforce their spatial abilities through original exercises. Specifically, this paper deals with the link between the Technical Drawing subject and the industrial radiology, obtaining the views of a part (plan, elevation and profile) as radiographs. It is necessary to apply the fundamental concepts of radiology, which define the color of the different radiograph zones in a quantitative way, according to both the type of material and the thickness of the represented part. The active methodology proposed in this paper helps: (i) to improve the spatial abilities of students and (ii) to make the study of technical drawing more enjoyable, bringing students closer to the professional life of an engineer. |
