Popis: The article is devoted to the argumentation of a graphological analysis of Dostoevsky’s manuscripts. Draft notes to the novel Demons and scientific publications of these texts are in the center of the research. The article covers the contents of the workbook of 1872-18763 that is kept in the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (F. 212, invt. 1, it. 9). Like the other Dostoevsky’s notebooks, it consists of various materials: draft notes to different literature and publicist works (Demons, The Diary of a Writer 1873, materials for reviews to Grazhdanin), literature and autobiographical notes, addresses, calculations (debts and expenses), calligraphic samples and drawings. We consider a question of the dating of the said notes; and the dates are being specified on the ground of the biographical notes. The main emphasis of this paper is on the establishment of the author’s text and correcting the misreadings performed by researchers. As a result of the comparison of these sources, erroneous research interpretations, which distorted the meaning and understanding of the author’s text, were revised. Besides, while analyzing the material, we have stated the particularities of the manuscript publication. The first edition renders the special punctuation features of the origin more accurately. In the second (academic) edition the punctuation of the manuscript is changed according to the spelling rules, this being said some erroneous readings contained in the first edition are repeated there. Reconstruction of the original text and elimination of errors of misinterpretation are undoubtedly important for further study and understanding of the author’s artistic ideas.
