| Popis: | Nella primavera del 1907 la scrittrice britannica Anne MacDonell e la pittrice inglese Amy Atkinson realizzarono un viaggio attraverso gli Abruzzi, il cui resoconto, intercalato da acquerelli, fu pubblicato nel libro In the Abruzzi a Londra nel 1908. Le descrizioni dei paesaggi, degni di assurgere a scenari di opere letterarie concepite in età romantica, e le digressioni sui monumenti e sugli oggetti d’interesse storico-artistico della regione, filtrate tramite il paradigma dannunziano, rappresentano un osservatorio privilegiato per comprendere le caratteristiche di un racconto che fu recensito dai contemporanei come un “romance of a romantic country”. In the Spring of 1907 the British writer Anne MacDonell and the English painter Amy Atkinson had a journey through the Abruzzi. Their travel account, illustrated by watercolours, was published in the book In the Abruzzi (London, 1908). The descriptions of the landscapes, suitable settings for literary works created during the Romantic era, and the digressions on the monuments in this region, interspersed with quotations from D’Annunzio’s works, are a privileged observatory to understand the features of a written work that was reviewed by contemporaries as a “romance of a romantic country”. |
