Crucial points in the prevention of intravascular catheter-related infections include scrupulous handwashing combined with the use of proper aseptic technique. Growing awareness of the importance of these factors has highlighted the need for multidisciplinary strategies involving healthcare workers, who insert and maintain intravascular catheters, as well as patients, who should be trained in the adoption of appropriate personal hygiene measures essential for proper catheter care. |
