In a series of thirty patients whose total hip prosthesis had become loose and had therefore to be replaced, first experiences were gathered with the implantation of a ceramic cup without any cement. Nineteen patients were provided with a ceramic cup, typ Lindenhof. Indication, operation procedure and postoperative treatment are particularly discussed. The postoperative review extends over a period of three to eleven month. A critical evaluation of the first results shows that the implanted ceramic cup was firmly integrated in the bone in spite of unfavorable anchoring conditions. This method proves to be helpful in cases when an aseptic loosening of the prosthesis has occurred, as it guarantees a painless function and a stable strain resistance. |
