Medium molecules have been detected by two methods, gel filtration and screening technique, in patients with diffuse purulent peritonitis and with chronic renal insufficiency. No close correlation between the findings of the two methods has been observed. The results lead to a conclusion that, despite being rapid and simple, the screening method is hardly adequate for cases with endogenous intoxication. Approaches to improvement of this method are discussed. |
