Marginal periodontium diseases are quite frequent; such involvement is often local. Pathogenetic therapy of the periodontium is based on surgical excavation of the vestibule of the mouth. The aim of the present paper is clinical evaluation of the 'open' and 'closed' vestibuloplasty methods. A total of 51 patients with hollow vestibule of the mouth were operated on, immediate and late results of multiple-modality treatment were followed up. Immediate results evidence that the maximal values of oral vestibule depth and fixed gingiva width have been achieved in the patients operated on according to Edlan and Meichar. These values were changing as the postoperative cicatrices resolved and in a year after surgery the most stable results were seen in the patients operated on according to the method developed by the authors. The vestibule depth made up 12.2 +/- 0.1 mm and fixed gingiva width 5.86 +/- 0.1 mm at this period. |
