Popis: New developments in the long established Yearsley phenomenon (artificial ear-drum), using the fenestra rotunda route, have become possible by replacing the cotton with a specially adapted plastic mechanical prosthesis : the acoustic lens. Patients with transmission deafness and large perforations, or better still destruction of the drum, and some with petromastoid evidement, but with a good internal ear function, can obtain very marked improvement in audition, without further intervention, for many months. Because of the extremely delicate nature of the phenomenon, further development of the acoustic lens requires extensive physiological studies of all its parameters.
