Popis: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common disease affecting people in the world and its incidence is increasing rapidly. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most important cause of mortality and morbidity among patients with type 2 DM. Patients with diabetes have a poorer prognosis than patients without diabetes. It is well known that other cardiovascular risk factors such as hyperlipidemia, hypertension and obesity that usually accompany to diabetes mellitus or impaired glucose tolerance as a metabolic syndrome component or not, can contribute to accelerated atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular event in diabetes mellitus. The management of patient with type 2 DM is not only glucocentric but focuses on multiple risk factor intervention.
